The Art Nouveau building with some baroque elements served as a lodge for the Cottbus Freemasons for years at its beginning. It housed an inviting ballroom and was often used as a venue for performances. During the Second World War the lodge was used by Nazi organisations and at the end as a military hospital. From 1957 the large hall served as a chamber stage for the Cottbus State Theatre.
After a vacancy of 16 years, the building was extensively renovated and converted into a residential and commercial building. The building was completely renovated and a complete redesign of the floor plan was carried out, whereby special attention was paid to the accessibility requirements. The construction project resulted in 12 condominiums with living spaces of between 60 and 100 m2.
